Canadians dance to top four


Canada placed two teams among the top four in the ice dance short program Wednesday at the world figure skating championships in Nice, France.

While Tessa Virtue and Scott Moir grabbed the spotlight by placing first with 72.31 points, the other Canadian team of Kaitlyn Weaver and Andrew Poje of Waterloo, Ont., was fourth with 66.47 points.

In the pairs short program, Canadian champions Meagan Duhamel, 26, of Lively, Ont., and Eric Radford, 27, of Balmertown, Ont., were in fifth position with 63.69 points. Jessica Dube, 23, of Saint-Cyrille de Wendover, Que., and Sebastien Wolfe, 21, of Terrebonne, Que., were 12th with 55.83 points.

Aliona Savchenko and Robin Szolkowy of Germany were in first with 68.63 points.

The pairs event concludes with free programs Friday.
