Bill Cosby asked the Internet to meme him. Bad idea.

Big mistake, Bill Cosby.

The 77-year-old comedian committed an egregious error Monday evening and opened himself up to the wrath of the Internet.

“Go ahead,” he dared his Twitter and Facebook followers. “Meme me!”

Such offers in the online world are an invitation to a public flogging.

To make matters worse, Cosby – or the crew that runs his social media accounts – also provided a link to a meme generator.

Many of the memes being created and shared relate to allegations of sexual assault made against Cosby in the past by a number of women. He settled a lawsuit in Nov. 2006 with a Pickering, Ont., woman who alleged he drugged and sexually assaulted her. He has never been charged with any crimes.

It started innocent enough.

Then things quickly went off the rails.
