Tillsonburg's second Spring Expo a great success

By Chris Abbott, Tillsonburg News

The Tillsonburg Lions Auditorium was still buzzing late Saturday afternoon at the second Spring Expo.

"It's been like this all day, right from 9 a.m." said KathieLyn Ryan, co-host of the annual event with Sarah Bramburger. "It's been excellent, fantastic. The vendors all had a great day, everyone's been happy, no complaints. I think you'll be surprised, our numbers will be pretty good. Way up from last year."

In addition to the vendors – 37 in total – Spring Expo 2 had a popular children's zone with face painting, play-doh and grab bags, supervised by volunteers from Glendale High School, as well as a clown and magician.

"Most of our Glendale student volunteers have been here all day," said Ryan, noting some of the students were there as early as 6:30 a.m. to help set up.

"We've had a lot of kids this year. More families and more kids," she added, attributing that in part to the Play Centre and Penny Sale. "As long as everyone's having a good time, I'm happy."

All-day live entertainment included Imagine Dance and Fitness, and a performance by Free Beer.

"Three members of Free Beer," Ryan noted. "Our Elvis entertainer couldn't make it, he had laryngitis, so I contacted Cindy Kilmer yesterday. She's from St. Thomas, and she was able to come out this afternoon."

One of the Spring Expo 2 highlights was the collection of 'Get Well' wishes for local firefighter John Kovacs.

"Cathy Krebs (Balloons R Us), she did the big balloon columns," said Ryan. "You donate money (loonies and toonies) and you get a Get Well card, and all those messages are going to Johnny with the donations. And then whatever we raise, a part of that goes to Johnny and London Children's Hospital."

Organizers are already planning a summer fundraiser at Rib Fest or Tillsonburg Fair to add to their 2016 Spring Expo 3 donations.

"We want to be able to do a little bit more next year," said Ryan.
