Environment Canada issues weather alert for severe thunderstorm passing through Southwestern Ontario
Environment Canada is telling area residents to hunker down as a severe thunderstorm passes through Southwestern Ontario, generating heavy rain, strong wind gusts and nickel-size hail.
“A line of thunderstorms is extending from Leamington to Grand Bend. These thunderstorms are moving east at 60 km/h,” the federal weather agency said in a bulletin issued at 9:43 p.m. Wednesday.
The agency's meteorologists warn that heavy downpours can cause flash flooding and water pooling on roads.
They also remind people that lightning is lethal: “Remember, when thunder roars, go indoors!”
Residents are urged to take cover when they see threatening weather approaching.
