Fire destroys storage building on Old Stage Road

No one was injured, but a storage shed was completely destroyed by a fire on Old Stage Road west of Middletown Line in Norwich Township Wednesday afternoon.

Township of Norwich District Fire Chief John Pucher of station four in Oxford Centre said the call for the fire came in around 1:30 p.m. and by the time he arrived on scene, the structure was fully engulfed.

Five stations were involved in the response. All the fire fighters from Oxford Centre, Burgessville and Norwich were on hand, as well as the tanker trucks from Otterville and Beachville.

“It was not a huge structure, but the reason we called so many stations out was for water,” said Pucher.

Damage to the roughly 20-foot-by-40-foot building was estimated at $10,000, which included the contents such as straw and farm implements. Pucher said because of the extensive damage, it isn't possible to determine the cause of the fire.
