WOODSTOCK -- A motorcyclist had died following an early afternoon crash in Norwich Township – the seventh such death on local roads since June.

The motorcyclist was travelling north on Highway 59 when their bike collided with a pickup truck heading east on Maple Dell Road, just south of Norwich, at about 2 p.m.

The man riding the bike was taken to a local hospital and died of his injuries. The driver of the pickup truck was uninjured.

ORNG air ambulance flew to the scene but did not transport the patient. Highway 59 was closed for at least a few hours from Airport Road to Milldale Road. Maple Dell Road was also closed from Pick Line to Hanmer Line.

The identity of the deceased is being withheld pending notification of next of kin.

Thursday’s motorcycle fatality is the third in the Woodstock area in little more than a month. Throughout the region, there have now been seven such deaths since June.
