A 73-year-old man is facing charges after Norfolk OPP say he tried to splash what appeared to be urine on officers investigating a mischief case.

Police were called to a residential building in Simcoe at about 4:22 a.m. Saturday and found someone had damaged a second-floor smoke detector, causing the alarm to go off.

When police returned just before 10 a.m. to investigate further, one of the residents opened the door and attempted to throw a “liquid that resembled urine” on the officers, police say.

A 73-year-old Simcoe man has been charged with assaulting an officer with a weapon and mischief.

He was taken into custody without incident and will appear in court at a later date.
