Oxford Auditorium will host a free International Women’s Day event on March 8
Everyone is invited to a free local event celebrating the immense value of women and their contributions to the world.
Oxford County Celebrates International Women’s Day is returning for their ninth year this Thursday, March 8 at the Oxford Auditorium.
“This event is important because despite what is happening in the media recently women are still excluded from opportunities and events, and not counted in as equal partners in society,” said Phyl McCrum, event co-chair. “This event is so important to us because we as women who have mothers, aunts, sister and daughters know the valuable contributions every woman makes in our community.”
The celebration will take place from 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. and will feature a free chili lunch, make-and-take interactive booths with local agencies and artisans, and the presentation of the AppreSHEation Award to two local residents.
“We wanted to provide an opportunity that is accessible to everyone to be in a space with other women and supporters of women, so they can really feel how dynamic they really are,” she said. “More than anything, this is a day to celebrate and to explore all of the supports for women and children in this community in a fun, interactive and carnival like atmosphere”
Swag bags worth about $50 will be distributed to the first 100 women who attend the event.
“The community has truly shown tremendous support for this event, and through donations and sponsorships we have been able to keep this free and accessible for women, their children, and supporters of women, in Oxford County,” McCrum said.
The doors open for this event at 11 a.m., with the presentation of the AppreSHEation Award just after lunch around 12:30 PM.
