The benefits of the Norwich Optimist Community Chili Cook-off are going to reach even further this year, with a twist in how the event proceeds are distributed.

Each of the teams competing to have the best chili in Norwich Township will be asked to identify their favourite local children’s charity or program. Half of the proceeds will be divided among all the children’s programs chosen. The remainder of the proceeds will be used by the Optimist Club to continue its programming in the township.

This year’s chili cook-off and silent auction is Saturday, March 24 at the Norwich Community Centre from 5:30 to 8 p.m.

Teams are invited to enter their best chili recipe and bring about eight litres total to serve to those who attend and give their votes. There are three categories: most flavourful chili (first, second and third place); most unique ingredient; and best team display or decorated table.

Entry forms can be downloaded from the Norwich Optimist Club Facebook page, and emailed to , faxed to 519-863-3393 or mailed to PO Box 1018 Norwich ON, N0J1P0

The Norwich Optimist Club first started hosting chili cook-off events in 2014 to raise money to support a Norwich family that lost its home to fire. Subsequent events have raised funds for a variety of community causes, including the new soccer fields.
