Winners of Hamilton Fringe Festival Playwriting Contest Announced

Hamilton, ON April 5, 2010– After months of reading and deliberation a winner has been chosen for the Hamilton Fringe Festival’s playwriting competition. Ron Fromstein, of Toronto, has been selected for his play Dianne and Me.

“Choosing a winner was a difficult task as the standard of the entries was exceptionally high. Fortunately we were eventually able to settle on a winner”, says Luke Brown, Festival Producer. “Dianne and Me is a gem of a piece that is sure to delight audiences.”

Diane and Me will receive $300 in prize money as well as a slot in the 2010 Fringe. David Finley’s Digging was selected as the first runner up. Digging will receive a professional reading at Theatre Aquarius. The 2nd runner up is Tremble by Judah Skoff.

Applications for the 2011 Hamilton Playwright's Contest will be available on the fringe website, www.hamiltonfringe.ca by October 2010.

The Hamilton Fringe is a non-juried and uncensored Festival that sees 100% of box office revenue returned to the artists. The 2009 fringe saw 28 productions participate and almost $31,000 returned to artists. The 2010 Hamilton Fringe Festival runs July 15 – 25 in various locations in the downtown area.
